Mission Statement:
" To provide information on self-development,
self-discovery and issues affecting the
lives of women in our community. "

After many years of serving the community of Long Island women, Eileen Tanne, founder of LIWOMEN.COM, has moved on to start www.WomensEducationCenter.com, focusing more on a national business point of view for  women. WomensEducationCenter.com features expert opinions and concrete information on the sophisticated issues impacting women in their work and family lives.

The National Association of Mothers' Centers (NAMC) will now oversee LIWOMEN.COM and its team of contributors to bring you the latest information, opinions and news regarding what's happening on Long Island for women. Eileen will continue to be an advisor for LIWOMEN and WomensEducationCenter.com, her new venture, is a great resource.

The National Association of Mothers' Centers recognizes the challenges, realities and value of mothering. Since 1975 our community-building model has laid the foundation for hundreds of Mothers' Centers programs around the country. These programs offer moms and other caregivers a sense of camaraderie, peer support, empathy, information, and resources. Through our Mothers Ought To Have Equal Rights (MOTHERS ) public policy initiative, we also advocate for the economic support of caregiving.

As a collective voice for mothers and parents in the United States, we address the many diverse issues related to Maternal health and well-being, Child health and development, Parenting, Work/life integration. We address the needs of Mothers, Caregivers, Mothers' Center program leaders, staff and members, other organizations working with, and for, mothers and families, Employers who want to help employees effectively meet the demands of both work and family.

In communities, libraries and workplaces we use a model for non-hierarchical leadership and non-judgmental communication in a safe, nurturing environment.

The work of mothering benefits all of us and it requires much physical and mental energy, strength and the ability to function with limited social support. Many families face a care crunch, juggling responsibilities of raising kids and helping aging parents in addition to outside jobs.

We believe that caregivers have the right to do such essential work in a truly supportive and empathetic environment. That means recognizing the value of their work, addressing their economic, social, educational, psychological, and physical needs, creating places and programs that make it possible to tap into decades of collective wisdom and the experience of other mothers. It means giving women--and men--the time, space and respect to clarify their unique needs and make the best choices for themselves and their families. No parent, or child, deserves anything less. We are your source on mothering and caregiving.
